Dr. Hunter Doherty “Patch” Adams
Dr. Hunter Patch Adams is an American physician, clown and a social activist, who believes in treating his patients with love, humor and creativity, apart from the traditional medical services. His work, pioneering alternative and non-insurance funded ways of improving health care, led him to teach medical students to develop compassionate connections with their patients, especially in children´s wards, relying much on humor and play, which he sees as essential to regaining physical and emotional health. His work and research is widely accepted as the cradle of hospital clowning as it is known today. It was immortalized by the Hollywood block-buster movie “Patch Adams”, starring Robin Williams in the lead role.
